Green is such a beautiful color and it became trendy to be green in every sense – from taking care of the planet to buying BIO products. Yet we often associate green with health so tightly that we need to ask ourselves again: “What does the color green represent?”.

Before I’ll answer your question, just want to mention that green is my mum’s favorite color. So, mum, this post is for you 😀

And of course for anybody else who loves green or simply wants to learn more about this amazing color. Let’s dig right in!

Green Forest

When one thinks of green, one usually thinks of trees, bushes, or grass. Nature is full of all shades of green – from dark emerald, through vivid green to brave lime.

So even if you can find practically every shade of green casually in nature when going out on a walk to the park or forest, every shade of it will carry a slightly different meaning.

As a woman who is obsessed with colors, I’ve decided to honor this lovely color and investigate the most popular shades of green to provide you with the most accurate knowledge.

And of course, to make my mum proud. 🙂

What Does the Color Green Represent?

Usually, green represents:

  • nature
  • growth
  • health
  • new beginning
  • harmony

What positive associations! No wonder so many people find green their favorite color – it certainly can bring good vibes to one’s life.

Yet, as we know there are many shades of green and each of them will be more focused on one meaning of green than the others. So if you want to have a detailed and complete picture, I encourage you to read the article till the end.

Ps. At the green fashion section I am recommending the best-looking green items to implement into your closet for positive vibes, so make sure to stick around 🙂

Emerald

What does the color green represent in this case? This deep color makes you think of a thick forest with this cold fresh air surrounding the trees. The description itself made me feel like I was on a chilly walk in nature!

Emerald takes its name from a gemstone and that’s why it seems so royal. If you are done with silver and gold, choosing a dress in this color can do the job for a special occasion.

Especially if your beauty type is autumn.

This shade of green represents nature and harmony. Somehow God made it this way that the mysterious trees go together so well with dark blue lakes or cold grey stones. These are cold shades, but they bring so much freshness, don’t they?

Army Green

Army green called also military green does not necessarily need to have bad associations because primary it represents camouflaging in nature.

Relationships with nature are beneficial for many reasons and it is emphasized that even a short walk in the park can be good for your health.

But back to the color! Implementing army green into your outfit or interiors, can give you a peaceful vibe or be united with nature.

It is a great background for more vibrant colors so you can pair with basically any color in a brighter shade. And just like with emerald, this shade of green will look the best on autumn beauty type yet can look good on pretty much everybody.

So if you want to communicate that you respect and love nature, put on something in this shade of green.

Mint Green

This shade will never be out of fashion. It is bright, and joyful and represents a new beginning. Every pastel shade will perform the best in the baby room color palette.

And as darker shades of green were dedicated to autumn beauty type, mint green is certainly the best for summer.

This shade is fresh and gentle, no wonder its primary meaning is a new beginning. Oh look, it even rhymed!

The second thing that this shade of green represents, is freshness – I mean, it is called mint for a reason! So the combination of new beginnings and freshness makes this color suitable for anything that has to do with hope.

Forest Green

I love this shade because it seems so… classic, doesn’t it? When people think of green, the first shade that pops into their minds is forest green. When it comes to this shade, what does the color green represent?

As it is not hard to guess, this green represents nature and health. I mean, when you think of a green smoothie, you usually think of the purest green there is – forest green.

That’s why this shade is suitable for any health campaign and if you are a plant lover, you can surround yourself with this shade as much as you want.

It is gentle for the eyes and has this calming vibe.

Forest green is more and more appreciated in fashion and something as simple as a casual dress in this color can add up this lovely sprinkle of color without being too crazy of course.

Unless you want to go crazy of course 🙂 In this case, boldly reach for…

Neon Green

Yay, such a vibrancy! This shade represents growth. It is full of energy and you will not miss it – just like with growing, isn’t it?

Neons are hard on the eyes, that’s why I recommend using them in small doses. Okay, just kidding. I love neons and if you love them too, use them without limits!

Well, maybe not in the interiors, you don’t want to make your guests blind 🙂

But in outfits… Why not? You can always ease it down with darker shades. For example, darker pink.

What Does the Color Green Represent in Interiors?

Well, as I said above, it all depends on the shade. Darker shades mean harmony and nature, the brighter, the more new beginnings and growth it carries.

It is not only about the meaning but also the feelings that color brings us. For example, yellow brings us joy.

Green is always a good choice because it reminds us of color appearing in nature. And this can have a calming effect.

Green, even as an accent color, gives a friendly and cozy vibe. Do not be afraid to play around and mix shades of it – you can create your unique green jungle!

What Does the Color Green Represent in Fashion?

Green in your outfit can send a lot of messages – I care about nature, I love forests, I am starting anew. This is very subjective I would say.

The only shade on which message we can agree on neon green. I mean, doesn’t it scream “Helloooo, I’m here!” 😉

Also, what is important, is that colors connect and mix in an outfit – for example, if you connect 6 different colors, their meanings will blend in connecting a new one, for example – creative. If you’re using one color as the main and then adding an accent color, you keep the original meaning of a shade.

If you want to learn more about creating good color palettes, check this article.

The general rule is, that the darker the color, the more “quieter” your outfit seems. So if you want to blend in, choose army green, if you feel like you want to stand out, mint is for you.

What Does the Color Green Represent in Flowers?

I just imagined a rose with green petals. It made me smile since it looks so ridiculous, right? The majority of flowers sure, have the green *searching for the English word in the dictionary* stalk, and then their petals have all the other colors.

So it means that green is the necessary component of a bouquet and does not carry the meaning itself. What carries it is the center of the flower, the petals.

But let’s not underestimate the role of our lovely green! It creates a background for other colors and that’s why every bouquet screams “harmony” even if the flowers are not really arranged perfectly.

But hey, green deserves to have an answer to the question: “What does the color green represent in flowers?”. So let’s honor this color and give it meaning in flowers – I’m voting for care.

So here it is, a green stalk *proud that she has learned a new word* for you. I care about you, my reader.

Eat Your Greens, Wear Your Greens

I admit it, I love healthy food! Like, really, give me a bowl of veggies and I’ll be happy. Maybe that’s why I like green so much.

Do you know what it reminds me of? Cucumbers in my grandpa’s garden. They were so fresh, so shiny… and Grandpa was putting them into the jars and preparing them for us with such love.

Ha, I’ve mentioned my mum, now grandpa. Will I stick to this green or will I write my family’s chronicles?

Anyhow. I guess what I want to say is that it does not matter what the color green represents that much. What matters more is what it means for YOU.

If green means family just like for me, or if it is completely something else for you – cherish that. If there is a color that brings positive memories to you, eat it, wear it, and paint with it as much as you want. Even if it is neon green! 😉

Love, Marysia
