4 Reasons Why Christians Should Not Wear Bikinis

Summer is still on, and every time this wonderful season comes, I wonder what swimsuit to pack for my next vacation. And I know we all have this struggle at least once a year. You want to look beautiful, don’t stand out too much, and get tanned, but at the same time, you wonder… can Christians wear bikinis at all?

This is a popular dilemma in modern society – the world tells you one thing, yet God seems to pull you in another direction. Confusion, feeling lost, and not sure is normal.

So today, my dear sister, I will talk to you about this damned bikini so once and for all you will know what to wear on the beach 😉

Small Struggles, Big Impact

This matter might sound funny – why put so much attention into beach outfits? The thing is, the Gospel impacts every single sphere of our life. And for us, women, clothes are an important area!

So I believe thinking through the question “Can Christians wear bikinis” is smart and wise. You obviously want to please God and embrace modesty, but you still want to respect today’s culture. I think the fact that you ask yourself this question shows that you are a devoted Christian.

Look, my husband and I decided not to kiss before marriage (find the whole story here). It seems like a small detail, right? You have no idea how much (positively!) it impacted not only our relationship but also inspired others, including unbelievers. See, sometimes decision that seems insignificant can have a huge impact.

So this summer, if you wonder – can Christians wear bikinis? – let’s get rid of the doubts and make the subject crystal clear.

And in the end, it is your decision what swimsuit you are going to wear. I just want to talk to you and exchange opinions, like sister to sister, okay? 🙂

Can Christians Wear Bikinis…? Modesty and Elegance

Well, let’s think about it together. We know that God wants us to be modest and cover our bodies gracefully. We are His daughters after all! Yet some situations require us to simply have fewer clothes on.

So no, I’m not saying we should be weirdos and wear sweatpants and a thick hoodie when we go swimming. This would be extreme and, if God required us to do so, Good News would simply turn into another version of stern Old Testament Law. Jesus gave us freedom, and this freedom allows us to pick an outfit in which we won’t boil ourselves 🙂

Usually, when you hear a bikini, you think about a very revealing two-piece swimming suit. Thongs and two triangles instead of a bra, that’s how it looks like, sadly. To be honest, it is extremely hard to look graceful in such attire because you will also look vulgar.

Before you get angry at me and scream that you have the freedom to wear whatever you want, and if men stare, then they should be ashamed, let me point out something crucial. Some people just don’t want to get that close to you. They feel like they are invading your privacy if you show up and walk around with your intimate parts being super exposed.

Let me be straight – some people just don’t want to see your butt, no matter how cute it looks in thongs 🙂 And since elegance and modesty mean considering others, in this case, we know the answer. Can Christians wear bikinis? As modest and elegant ladies, who we are… no. We shouldn’t.

The Exclusivity Part

No matter if you are married or not yet, your body essentially belongs to three people. God, of course, yourself, and your (future) husband. And sister, I think we will agree on that one. Your body is a privilege to look at.

Putting on a bikini sabotages that. Everything is exposed and your attire begs for attention. Wrong kind of attention, sadly…

Saving your body for marriage is the most beautiful thing you can do for yourself and your future spouse. You were gifted with a masterpiece that should hang in the most prestigious gallery. Don’t let it hang in a cheap place where everybody can look at it for free.

There are plenty of modest swimsuits in which you will look gorgeous, yet still graceful and not vulgar. I know it might be challenging to find such, but do not agree on less just because finding a lovely swimsuit takes more time than buying the kinds you can get in any store.

Every clothes store offers deeply cut bikinis for cheap. I think you deserve something better! Even if it requires more time and money. Remember who is your Father. This one’s on Him. 🙂

Being Different

Christians are different than the worldly people. We follow different standards of life, in every sense. Of course, it will show.

So in this case, can Christians wear bikinis? If the answer is yes, we would blend in, disrespect their bodies, and attract the wrong men. Going astray into the world usually starts with small steps. Do not let the devil pull you there, fight. Dare to be different, dare to wear appropriate swimming suits, even if 90% of the beach is half-naked.

Nudity is a natural thing, but it is not to be shown recklessly. Giving it to everyone just like that is robbing you. And also lowering your chances of attracting the right guy. Because if a devoted Christian is looking for a wife, he rather won’t consider somebody wearing an appropriate outfit. He will assume such a girl is not ready for exclusivity in marriage.

We need to be different, we need to say no to some things the world offers. Sometimes they will label us as freaks, but who cares, if, at the same time, God will label us as faithful daughters?

The Gift of Marriage

After our 4th anniversary, I can with full confidence say – marriage is awesome. And waiting with sex till the wedding night was SO worth it!

Even if you are not in a relationship, saving your body for marriage is a wonderful thing to do. It’s an honor that you should give only to a man who will commit to you for the rest of his life. You are a precious daughter who is like a diamond. Do not let anybody tell you differently.

You do not need to wear revealing clothes to be pretty, you are extremely beautiful and hey, look at me. You do not need one more lustful gaze from the wrong guy. Do not build your worth on such a shallow ground. Build it on the everlasting love of God.

So, sister, what do you think now? Can Christians wear bikinis? I think they they shouldn’t. Our bodies are the temples of God and they should be covered properly enough to display His greatness, purity, and grace.

Let me say this once more – you are precious and your body is a gift.

Wrap it up, girl, and do not let anybody peek too soon.

Love, Marysia
